Steaming Great Vegetables’

March 30th, 2008 by Administrator

With all these healthy eating fads and things going on today, do you think that anyone has come up with any new cooking methods that really make a difference?

No of course they haven’t. The best ways to cook healthy food, have been being used for centuries, no-one has really found a better way of doing it, they have just reminded us that there are healthier ways, than what we have become accustomed to.

Take your common garden vegetable for instance, which has been around and in our lives since before modern man roamed the earth. You, me and everybody can eat most vegetables raw, just as certain herbivores before us have done for thousands of years. Now we may have introduced cooking food, I’m not sure, because I’m not that old, but I am pretty sure no other species cooked their food before the human did.

So really what makes us so convinced that in this day and age, we are eating any healthier than say, the Egyptians? Well we do have some archeological facts that suggest the Egyptians diet was not as varied as it could have been, but they did eat vegetables. So has every human since we evolved from the apes.

In my personal opinion, one of the beat ways to cook these life sustaining plants, is to use an ancient method, used (I think) for the first time, by the Chinese. It’s called steaming and instead of boiling, which we have become used to, it does not rid the vegetable of all its best properties. These properties are some of the best things for our bodies; we need them to maintain a healthy life style, so why boil them out.

Using a steamer is what we should be doing. At sites like Chumbadeals.com, you will find a very good range of electronic steamers, these will cook your vegetables to a state of readiness that your watering mouth will not be able to resist. Also the taste of a steamed vegetable from an appliance, like the Oster mechanical food steamer, will be much tastier than something that has been boiled.

Remember though it is not just veg that can be steamed, meats, fish and rice or pulses can also be steamed. If you take a look at some of the steamers at Chumbadeals, you will see just how easy it is to re-create, the ancient art of steaming your food. When you buy a steamer, then you will taste for yourself, just how good it can be, and that’s not only for the taste buds.
