Preserving Your Food and Creating More Room

May 27th, 2008 by Administrator

Once we have done a good shop, we have to pack away what we have bought. All the usual places, for tinned foods and packets of things, are taken up and everything is in its usual place. Then it comes to the frozen or refrigerated food stuffs, I’m sure it is the same the world over, but I always seem to have trouble fitting everything in to the freezer and over loading the fridge.

The packaging of a lot of the food we buy, is usually bigger than is needed or is an awkward shape, which does not really help when trying to store the food away. Sometimes we need to keep bits of the packaging, as it has cooking instructions or they have a good idea on them for a recipe, but we don’t need to keep the packaging at all really.

This is where a good vacuum sealer comes in handy, the amount of room you can save in the freezer compartment, when using a vacuum sealer, can be the difference between an extra weeks worth of meals, or going to the shops all over again. Keeping the part of the packaging you need or want is also viable, as you can place it in with whatever you are sealing up, this can also help with identifying your chicken bits, from your turkey bits or anything else that you can’t remember, what it is.

People don’t really think of a vacuum sealer as a kitchen appliance, but it is and it’s a good one to have. To preserve your food, you can find an excellent range of vacuum sealers, food saver bags and containers at Chumbadeals.com. They are all designed to keep your food as fresh as the day you bought it.

The Freshlock Turbo 2 Vacuum Sealer-1830 is a kitchen appliance that no home should be without, its not big and clumsy, its easy to use and will save you space in your fridge and freezer. For food stuffs that don’t need to be chilled, you could go for the traditional route and use the good old plastic container. Again from Chumbadeals.com is a 48 piece, Super Seal 448XL Cranbury Food Saver Set.

Whichever way you choose to go though, you will be surprised at how much room you will have to store more of your favorite foods, whilst keeping them fresh and tasty.

The Search For The Perfect Cup of Coffee

May 18th, 2008 by Administrator

Almost everybody loves a good cup of fresh coffee, from freshly ground coffee beans, we would all agree that the instant coffees are nothing in comparison and never really seem to hit the spot. So when we enter a shop and go hunting for those special ground beans, some of us look at them and think, why don’t we just get the whole bean and grind it ourselves, then we think that it is too much hassle.

The thing is, it doesn’t have to be any hassle at all, the amount of good coffee grinders on the market, these days is phenomenal. The best ones are obviously electric, saving your hands and wrists a whole lot of bother, some are self cleaning, some will do fifteen cups at a time and some will do you just enough to give you your perfect cup of coffee.

Then you have to look at some of the best kitchen appliances on the market, of course I’m talking about the coffee making machines, or how about your own cappuccino and espresso machine. These don’t have to be great big things, that you see in café’s, you can get them just the right size for your kitchen and even get one of these kitchen appliances that will make just espresso, cappuccino or a normal cup of fresh coffee.

At Chumbadeals there is a brilliant range of espresso and cappuccino machines, an eye catching example is the Hamilton Beach 40729 Cappuccino and Espresso maker, this has pod attachments that work with 15 bars of pressure to create superior espresso cream, a water tank that is easily removed and an easy stream frother.

For freshly ground coffee like you would get in a café, you can’t go wrong with these good looking kitchen appliances, this means we can all have our perfect cup of coffee.

Can’t Think of Anything New to Cook?

Cookbooks

Everybody runs out of ideas, when cooking and new things to cook can be hard to find. We either are not sure if we will like it, think the ingredients are too hard to find, too expensive just to use on one dish or we get stuck with having the same kind of things each week, as it’s often easier to stick with what we know.

The cook books that we look at can sometimes be hard to follow, resulting in an end product that would usually look better in the dog, than on a plate. However there are good cook books out there, which will eventually become another kitchen appliance in your home. One of the things to consider with these books is that you do not have to stick to the same recipe as they do, you can add or take out ingredients to suit yourself. What do you think chefs have done throughout the ages, to create different or variations of dishes?

Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver and even the most famous Raymond Blanc, all had to start somewhere and they where all taught by someone who had to learn from someone else. All these famous chefs have read and cooked from other peoples recipes, which have been written down and passed on, by someone or other. There is no getting away from the fact that we find it hard to create a totally new dish, from thin air.

Don’t be daunted by the recipes that you find in cook books, just have a go and if you don’t like it then change it a little. There are some very good cook books at Chumbadeals that will give even the most basic of cooks an idea or two of their own. One I looked at and now have is, Robin Miller’s, Quick Fix Meals: 200 Simple Recipes to Make Mealtime Easy, not only good for easy meals, but I have managed to create some of my own from it too.

Chumbadeals even have a book on How to Boil Water: Life Beyond Takeout Cookbook. This I have not bought, as for me the takeout is more of a treat and not a lifestyle.

Get yourself some good cookbooks and you will never be stuck or afraid, in the kitchen again. Remember even the best chefs, don’t like their own books for cooking, why should they, they know it, they want something different as well.

The Movies at Home

May 7th, 2008 by Administrator

My wife and I decided we would have a comfy night in, with a bottle of wine, some chocolate and a good film. There is definitely something missing, we both thought, after a short time looked at her, she looked at me and together, we said, ‘Popcorn’.

After all what is a trip to the cinema or a home movie experience, without the popcorn? I’ll tell you, it’s no experience at all.

We decided that one of us had to delay proceedings, leave and go to a shop to buy some. We decided we would have a butter based popcorn and a sweeter one, so of I went in search of somewhere near, that could sell me the delights, we where looking for.

When I got back home, I had two bags of ready made, buttered and sweetened popcorn, two packets of quick microwave popcorn and a bag of corns you had to pop yourself. Which lot do you think we went for?

Actually we done the lot, but only because we lost interest in the film and started to bet on which popcorn, had the most kernels left, after we had eaten all the bits, that it was possible to eat without cracking our teeth.

What we eventually decided was it would be cheaper, more fun, even quicker to buy a kitchen appliance to do the job for us, or in layman’s terms a popcorn maker. Seeing as though I had just filled my face with popcorn and had already been out, I looked on the internet, there I came across Chumbadeals.com. I did not have to look far actually, because they had an offer on the first page of the site, for just what we were looking for.

The Presto 04820 Poplite Hot Air Corn Popper looked like a great machine. It’s not like the microwave, where you will set alight the bag, if you leave it in there for too long, the ready made stuff, that is basically too sickly, and you don’t have the hassle of wrecking a sauce pan doing it by yourself, with kernels that can take an eye out.

Buying a kitchen appliance that everyone in the family can use, is not just fun when you want to sit and have a movie experience, its good if you want the kids to do something for you as well. Only kidding there, but it is fun, safe and clean.

We’re getting one and having a look to see what else on Chumbadeals and other sites, can do to make our lives just that little bit easier.
